Behaviour Support

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred approach to behaviour that is focused on improving quality of life and reducing behaviours of concern.

Our accredited Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners will work closely with you and your family, carers and support networks to develop intervention plans and strategies that allow you to live your best life.

We can help with preparing you for school, work or other social activities, assisting in developing communication and social skills and building your mental health, flexibility and resilience.

At Fourth Woman Therapy, we believe a multidisciplinary approach is important. Your Behaviour Support Practitioner will work closely with your other service providers, such as an Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist, Physiotherapist and Exercise Physiologist, for a holistic service focused on your personal needs.

Functional Behaviour Assessment

Our Behaviour Support Practitioners can help assess why you behave the way you do by appraising your physical and social environments and speaking to those who help and care for you. This assessment will help our practitioners in finding information about the context of the behaviour of concern, the skills that might be needed to replace the behaviour and the changes, if any, that need to be made to your environment to help you and your support network feel safe and supported, and live active and fulfilling life!

Behaviour Support Plan

Depending on the complexity of your needs, our Behaviour Support Practitioners, following assessment, will create a behaviour support plan to be implemented by a team of professionals. The plan summaries the supports you, your carers and your family may need in order to make changes within your environment, focusing on preventing, responding to and managing challenging behaviours.

Reducing Restrictive Practices

Our team also aims to support individuals and those around them with identifying and reducing the use of restrictive practices-or practices that restrict an individual's movement and independence- over time. We can support you to understand what restrictive practices are and suggest positive ways to reduce the need for these practices to be in place.

Training and Monitoring

We will train and educate your family, carers and staff so they can support you and help you manage the behaviours of concern. The aim of training is to ensure that everyone can implement the suggested positive behaviour support strategies effectively. Training can be undertaken within your home environment, school or group home.
